Travel Info, Please

The High School Band is headng to NYC May 28th. We will be staying until June 1st. Time will be spent seeing the Broadway show "In the Heights" and the Blue Man Group, Times Square touring, Rockefeller Center touring, China Town and Little Italy. They will be performing on Liberty Island our last day there. Perhaps with nice weather we will see some of Central Park (we have a four- hour window). If weather is bad, perhaps the Metropolitan (yes!). Any restaurants or places you all would recommend not missing? Perhaps a falafel stand? Don't forget, our budget is meager.

Im looking forward to the trip since I haven 't been that far north and east before. I only have issues with the bus trip and subsequent overbearing adults that will be present. Thankfully, my hotel room mates are some of the well-behaved. I shall be hunting for heavy-duty ear plugs and "happy" medications to take with me.

I had fun with my daughters' group. I'm sure they will be glad to have a cool chaperon on the trip.

there's a restaurant in the theatre district called Pasta Plus. DH travels to NY with teenagers every year and they usually eat there. In fact they just saw "In the Heights," and DH said it was a great show to take teenagers to see.

and Houston is pronounced "How-ston," not like the city in Texas.

Just a tip from a native New Yorker :)

AM, thanks and what a video. That's a lot of man. Im sure we will happen upon him if he is out since we will be touring almost incessantly.

Thanks Sandi. I didn't think I was going to go due to funds. It was a surprise to get to after all. m just taking a box of crackers and my jar of peanut butter.

Just Me, these kids are going to be blown away with NY and the show. They have a Q & A session with the main guy in the show afterward. And thanks for the info.

I knew you'd have some info, Anne. Thank you!

Are you riding the bus all the way from home, or just while you're there. That'd be a fair bit of travel on a bus. Trust me, I know.

Bus travel tips: Sit either in the middle or in the first two seats. Don't sit over the rear wheels, too rough a ride. Don't sit behind the rear wheels. Even rougher ride and too close to the bathroom.

If you get close to the bathroom, carry a quart of motor oil with you. Pouring motor oil down the toilet will help kill the smell.

They should have DVD players so think about what movie you want to watch and bring some. You might end up watching Adam Sandler all the way if you don't bring an alternate choice.

Dress light in case the AC doesn't work very well, but bring a blanket in case it works very well. They're hard to control sometimes, even when they work right.

Dramamine will help with motion sickness and it has an added side effect of making you sleepy.

Bring napkins in case you drool while you sleep.

Don't fall asleep around teenagers. Ugly things can happen.

The windows only open in emergency. Or in case of extreme drunkenness. Who would have thought "drunkenness" had two N's in a row?

Have fun.

I was once a naked cowboy, but thank goodness, there is no video of this adventure.
