Is this not the most amazing thing you've seen in a while?!An Ice wave from the floor of Lake Huron near Mackinaw Island..... Michigan has had the coldest winter in decades. Water expands to freeze, and at Mackinaw City the water in Lake Huron below the surface ice was supercooled. It expanded to break through the surface ice and froze into this incredible wave. I've seen pictures of this wave phenomena in Antarctica, but in Michigan? Yes, it's been quite a winter!

That's amazing! It might get messy when it thaws.
This is quite a phenomenon as is the number of hits my blog has from the googled "ice wave nesr Mackinaw Island, MI". Something like 41 since I posted this.
And I didn't write the blerb with the photos. I forgot to highlight that fact...
It's not just that the phenomenon of an ice wave that is amazing. The size is awesome. And the colors are so pure and clear it makes me cold just to look.
I imagine it melting in a single instant and crashing to shore as if it never paused to freeze.
That is quite something - it made me think of the Columbia Ice Fields in the Rocky Mtns. But this is more dramatic. Wow! It would be fun seeing pictures of it as it melts.

Those are not in Michigan. The pictures are real, but it is not Lake Huron.
