Happy Halloweenie

So the party went well on Saturday night. E had about 20 kids show up. I didn't mean to imply I was also hosting a party. I only meant since E was hosting I would also be "present".
I would occasionally retreat into my bedroom from time to time to breathe.
I think I managed to stay in the background well enough. And I didn't dress up. I saved that for Monday night's Harvest sock-hop we boosters put together.
Let me just say, no kid nowadays knows what a sockhop means and when they are told it's a "Harvest" sock hop they think old people. Many asked if there were going to be lots of old people there. Sigh....
Anyway, it was attended well and the music was lively, the food was really good and the decor was awesome (I was helpful in that arena).
I dressed goth but apparently didn't hit the mark as many high schoolers asked me what my costume was...sigh...

Yesterday I went home halfway through the day because I barely could walk or talk I had so little energy. I spent the rest of the day on the couch and the evening in the chair. The kids got a taste of what it would be like if I were laid up completely. I don't know what the problem was but until this morning about 9 a.m., I was still feeling badly.

I have enjoyed everyone's posts lately but don't have much energy to add a comment. Keep up the good work.

UPDATE: After canvassing the rooms looking for chocolate during their Fall parties (Yeah, we don't call it Halloween around here- it's the Bible Belt, after all), I managed several fixes, even though they were "snack sized". I was worried at first. All of 1st grade (4 rooms), many rooms in 2nd and all 3 5th grade rooms had nachos for their parties and 3rd grade had pizza....PIZZA and NACHOS!!! What the frak happened to candy????? Oh, what a world, what a world....

Two sighs in one post.. you do sound tired! I had a party for my daughter last year with 10 kids and that took a few days for me to get over. ;-) Maybe crashing from post candy consumption? Hope you are feeling better soon!

Feel better, Greeny. I'm sure another Snickers wouldn't hurt. And what the frak happened to candy at Halloween indeed?

My nephew told me at his "Fall Party" at school they served grapes/apples/oranges.

Ooooh, he was a grumpy Mime when he got home.

Points for dressing Goth.

OK, forgive my Englishness - but whats a Sockhop? And what is a Booster? This would no doubt help me paint a more vivid mental picture of your life over the past couple of days. I guess your next holiday will be Thanksgiving... now that I do know about. And my son went to a Hallow... sorry, fall party last night, and ended up bobbing for marshmallowes in icing sugar, and bobbing for apples in water.. so he had a great time.

Like yore jack-o-lantern Greeny, but uh...can ya' post you in Goth????

I thought it were all ya'll teachers who done deprived the young'uns of the candy --causes sugar highs and makes the wee ones fractious??

So tickled to see ya on the Porch

Hi,Iamnot.

Markec, I was really sighing about the fact none of the kids knew what a sockhop was. I guess really they are out of style. The only reason we called it a sockhop instead of a dance is to promote it as more of a "family friendly" environment so the middle school principal (read:donkeybutt)would allow middle schoolers to attend.
Lorraine, forgive me for stealing your coined term "frak". I love it.
Hi, Boxer! Poor Mimey nephew. I hear ya.

Simon, a sock hop is a 1950's term for a dance that involves removing your shoes when dancing since the dancing took place on the high school gym floor and could be marred from shoes. Socks are much gentler to the wood floor.
A booster is a crazy lunatic that is under the impression she/he could support, improve, lift up spirits and otherwise make the experience of a band or choir member better. Did I mention they are subject to delusions? Most of the time, there are only a few that sort of grit their teeth and manage to help raise $5000 or $6000 a year for an incredibly harsh bus trip to the U.S. capital every 4th year. Ack, I need an alka-seltzer now.

Aunty, I didn't get shots of myself in my goth get-up. Perhaps they have one in the music deptment.
And as far as the teachers, some do make that decision and some leave it up to the kids. The nutrition craze is here to stay. I am all for limiting but not on a holiday such as this.
Besides, kids are fractious all the time..What's a little sugar?

Thanks for stopping by!!

Interesting thing, being in the bible belt and all. In my neighborhood, some of the Jews don't celebrate Halloween (All Hallow's Eve or All Saint's Day) because of its Christian roots.

Sounds like E had a great party.
We have a Halloween party at church every year, complete with haunted house and candy. I love being a Presbyterian

Mmmmm, candy. Have you tried the Take5 bar by Hershey? The one with a pretzel in the middle that is covered with peanut butter, caramel and chocolate? Holy smokes! I kept hiding those at the bottom of the bowl.

Sorry you've been a bit run down. Here comes the busy time of the year!

2 more weeks from this coming Monday and I'll be holding my son. So looking forward to having my body back. Sorry I haven't been by much.

Anne, I understand about not believing or celebrating a certain holiday, of course, but many here believe NO one should since they don't. I don't buy that logic.
Mom, Presbyterian and Methodist know how to party in a wholesome way, right?
Sandi, I would NEVER pass up a Reeses!
Lisa! HI, hope you're feeling well. And we will wait for Baby's pics with high anticipation! All the best..
Take 5's are never in the teacher's workroom candy machine for long. Yes, they are scrumptious.
By the way, I'm purchasing vitamins today!

Greeny,

I love Reeses and had a left over Halloween one the other day. It was one of those banana creme/ peanut butter ones that made for to celebrate Elvis. It was the most amazing thing I'd eaten in a long time.

Good thing I discovered them so late after they were gone from store shelves or I'd end up as fat as Elvis.
